The flow pattern with solids suspension is depicted below. The combination of laminar and turbulent non-Newtonian flow makes development and testing of solid mixing difflcult. However, CFD modelling is an excellent tool that allows for the design and optimization of large industrial mixing tanks and provides comprehensive details of mixing and stagnant zones that are not readily obtained through lab and field testing.
